Summary of Rules of Golf
Local rules (Refer to the back of the Autoscore card – updated 1-1-2016)
OUT OF BOUNDS – RULE 27-1
All areas defined by white stakes with black tops. All ground beyond the course boundary fence (post faces). The area bounded by the perimeter of the Clubhouse (incl. attached buildings), the main practice putting green and the car park. The maintenance buildings & yards, and the bowling greens & surrounds.
GROUND UNDER REPAIR – RULE 25-1
Play is prohibited within a GUR demarcated area and relief MUST be taken.
Garden beds marked with a blue stake, or mulched tee surrounds, are GUR and relief MUST be taken (Rule 25-1). The GUR boundary is defined by a constructed or formed edge, or otherwise by the limit of the mulched area.
PROTECTION OF YOUNG TREES
Relief MUST be taken from a young planted tree, including its mulched surrounds, which is staked or under 2 club lengths in height, which interferes with the lie of the ball, the player’s stance or intended swing (Rule 24-2b(i)).
SPRINKLER HEADS – RULE 24-2
Sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions and relief may be taken. If a ball lies through the green and an immovable obstruction on or within two club lengths of both the putting green and the ball intervenes on the line of play, the player may take relief.
Water filled bunkers marked with White Stakes are GUR and relief MUST be taken (Rule 25-1b(i)). Relief may be taken for a ball lodged in a bunker washaway (Rule 25-1b(ii)). Stones in bunkers may be removed (Rule 24-1).
STAKES AND ROPES
All Stakes and Ropes are Immovable Obstructions. Relief may be taken (Rule 24-2b).
Relief may be taken (Rule 25-1) for a ball in a wheel mark caused by earth moving equipment or heavy machinery (incl. course equipment).
OVERHEAD POWER LINES
A ball striking an overhead power line MUST be replayed. (Rule 25-5)
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES – RULE 14-3
Distance measuring devices may be used provided non-conforming features are not used.
AUTOSCORE SCORECARD – RULE 6-6
The written portion of the player’s autoscore scorecard will be used to determine the player’s correct score per hole.
PERMANENT DROP ZONES – OPTIONAL RELIEF
Optional relief may be taken at the following drop zones: (i) at the nearest drop zone on either side of the 4th green if a ball enters the water hazard behind the green between the green stakes – penalty 1 stroke; (ii) on the 12th men’s front tee from for a ball in the environmental area between the two men’s tees – no penalty.
Prolonged Siren – discontinue play immediately; Three Short Sirens – discontinue play; Two Short Sirens – resume play.
